I’m hoping that many of you will continue to stay in touch through my new substack Is This America? I’ll continue to write about race, law democracy, civil rights - and a bit of art, sports and culture. As difficult as this moment is, I truly believe that we can build a democracy organized around the values of equality and justice if we keep working, voting, litigating, organizing, speaking the truth, and letting our voices be heard. For those of you who followed me from Twitter, thank you! It’ll take me a while to start posting, but I look forward to digging in to this new format.
This substack is named after the iconic question asked by the great American voting rights activist and my personal hero Fannie Lou Hamer, when she spoke at the Democratic National Convention on behalf of the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party in 1964. If you’ve never seen the short video, you can see it here. Let’s begin!
Felicitaciones hermanita 🙏🏽
Thank you. I had never seen this video. She was brave to do what she did. I hope I have the same bravery over the next 4 years in the face of all that is to come.
