I realize the blue voters in red states are more likely to have the ability to get a picture ID made more difficult. I know one friend’s mom in Alabama had her closest motor vehicle office closed (it was in a Black neighborhood). However, we had many years to prepare for this, I can’t believe blue states and blue cities didn’t have an all out push to get picture IDs into everyone’s hands by now.
Blue states and blue cities have (short term) advantages that other cities and states don’t have. I lived in a blue state where at the time there was breathing room. Blue states and blue cities have active and engaged white women who are on the front lines and doing great work. But, when people talk about who to engage they focus on black and brown communities as well as “young people “. You know who they don’t talk about engaging? White women who either vote Republican, against their interests or don’t vote at all! https://www.pewresearch.org/politics/2024/04/09/partisanship-by-race-ethnicity-and-education/
Thank you Sherrilyn Ifill for keeping us updated on the status of this disastrous bill. I called my Delaware Senators and their office indicated that they’re already opposed to it. I had read that with the filibuster rule, the bill has about a 15% chance of passing. But as you said, if they decide to end the filibuster rule, then it’ll likely pass with 51 votes. I wonder if #47 will bring this up during his SOTU?

Thank you for this. Calling my Senator in the morning.
