I love how you not only say, "We have work to do," but you also say specifically what work we can do, and THEN suggest resources for doing it! Great newsletter. I am making a copy and keeping it by my desk--my new year's resolutions.

I’m so excited to continue learning from you! I left Twitter and the only reason I wanted to stay on was to keep connected to you! Thank you for your brilliance and I can’t wait to read your book. Peace and health to you in 2023.

“… work for democracy, rather than solely for candidates or political parties”

If everyone in this country really understood that the us vs them is Americans vs Billionaires and not Left vs right or any other divisive distinction, that it is about who controls our lives, we would be righteously angry and force change.

Getting the message out so our fellow citizens don’t get swindled into cults of personality.

Informing fellow citizens of their civic duties, that democracy needs our constant engagement from us.

I used to be the type who said “They’re smart in DC, went to the best schools, all Rhodes Scholars, they got this”

How our democracy operationally functioned was largely a mystery to me. Until trump was elected. Then I paid attention. But that is SO late in the game.

Better late than never, but now I am pursuing a deeper understanding of how our country’s government functions. And it seems we need laws so specific in stopping bad people from destroying our democracy.

Thanks for the concrete suggestions on how to go about this 🇺🇸

Thank you Sherrilyn! I am so happy to find you on Substack. I always appreciate & learn from you.

I have another big motivating factor for me to remain vigilant and informed. The activities you identified are exactly the behaviors opponents to making true progress want us to abandon. Thanks for your words & encouragement!

Thank you for capturing what I have felt for a long time now. The Democratic Party has to start pushing from the bottom up instead of waiting around to be told which races have been deemed "winnable" and worthy of resources this cycle. All races matter because people are greatly impacted by decisions made at the local state and federal level.

I echo Linda's sentiments. I began donating to causes I support in 2022. I'd never done that, but felt moved to do more than just vote. I'm now thinking it's past time to put in some work. I'm grateful for the roadmap.

I thought this was a very useful article, as Ms Ifill doesn't just say "do more," but what some concrete actions are.
