Yes! Continue to push against the stone of lies, racism and fascism. I think an open letter to Congress is also needed. Where are the checks and balancing? We still pay their salaries!!!

Thank you for this lovely essay. And this is why we march on till victory is won:

"...we hold the power to teach our children what love of country looks like....

You cannot teach your children to love your country, while teaching them to hate groups of people in it.

I was worried that you were ill, not writing for what seemed like a too long period of time. We Lady Ann 94 and Mr. B 88 are on board for the long haul. Our hearts hurt a whole big bunch when we are reminded of all the pain of the many. To that end we will have your back until the end and for goodness sakes we shall try very hard to walk with you and the caring family step by step until the goodness in all of us does overcome that which serves no one well. Our deepest respect and love: Mr. B and Lady Ann.

I got tears in my eyes reading this. Your description of those events that informed your love for democracy and our country reminded me of my own growing up. In my white family we learned from our parents that the Civil Rights movement was a courageous struggle to make democracy real and inclusive. I was 8 when Selma happened.

These are such gut wrenching times. It's easy to feel disgested by the country and its people. Your essay reminded me again what the best of us are capable of.

I wonder if it's possible to "hear" Kennedy's comment differently... that Trump's behavior are so odious and destructive that people are realizing, by watching the destruction of our democracy, just how much they actually do love our country and want to preserve it...? Trump of course would hear Kennedy's words in a flattering light, but just maybe that's not what Kennedy was actually saying. I can hope...
